Clinical Use / PPE & Safety

How clinicians
use this product.

Personal protective equipment for clinical teams — masks, respirators, face shields, gloves, gowns, and barrier apparel that meet OSHA and CDC infection-control standards.

Indications

Clinical use cases.

  • Standard and transmission-based precautions
  • Procedural and surgical asepsis
  • Airborne and droplet pathogen protection
  • Blood and body fluid barrier protection
  • Chemical and hazardous drug handling

Application Technique

Step by step.

01

/ 05

Hand hygiene.

Perform hand hygiene before donning PPE. Inspect each item for defects before use.

02

/ 05

Donning sequence.

Gown → mask/respirator → eye protection → gloves. Gloves go on last and pull over gown cuffs to maintain the barrier.

03

/ 05

Respirator seal check.

For N95 respirators, perform a user seal check on every application. Exhale and inhale — detect any leaks and reposition if needed.

04

/ 05

Doffing sequence.

Gloves → gown → eye protection → mask. Doff in a designated area; never touch the outside of contaminated PPE.

05

/ 05

Disposal.

Dispose of single-use PPE in appropriate waste streams immediately after doffing. Perform hand hygiene.

Contraindications & Cautions

When not to use.

  • N95 respirators require annual fit testing for clinical use
  • Surgical masks are not equivalent to N95 respirators for airborne pathogens
  • Latex gloves should not be used in latex-allergic patient environments
  • Do not reuse single-use disposable PPE between patients

FAQ / PPE & Safety

Frequently asked.

Answers to the questions clinical buyers and care teams ask most about this product category.

What's the difference between a surgical mask and an N95 respirator?

Surgical masks protect against droplets and splashes but do not create an airtight seal. N95 respirators filter out at least 95% of airborne particles and require annual fit testing. Use N95s for airborne precautions (TB, measles, COVID-19 aerosols).

Are these gloves latex-free?

Nitrile and vinyl gloves are latex-free and safe for latex-allergic patients. Natural rubber latex gloves are clearly labeled and should be avoided in latex-sensitive environments. Check the product label for glove material.

Do these gowns meet AAMI Level standards?

AAMI PB70 classifies gowns from Level 1 (minimal risk) to Level 4 (high risk, surgical). Check the gown's AAMI rating to match the clinical risk of the procedure. Isolation gowns are typically Level 1–3; surgical gowns are Level 3–4.

Can these be sterilized and reused?

Most disposable PPE is single-use only and must not be reprocessed. Reusable items (e.g., face shields, some gowns) must be cleaned and disinfected per manufacturer instructions between uses.

What's the proper donning and doffing order?

Donning: hand hygiene → gown → mask/respirator → eye protection → gloves. Doffing: gloves → gown → hand hygiene → eye protection → mask → hand hygiene. Always doff in a designated area.
