Application Technique
01
/ 05
Perform hand hygiene before donning PPE. Inspect each item for defects before use.
02
/ 05
Gown → mask/respirator → eye protection → gloves. Gloves go on last and pull over gown cuffs to maintain the barrier.
03
/ 05
For N95 respirators, perform a user seal check on every application. Exhale and inhale — detect any leaks and reposition if needed.
04
/ 05
Gloves → gown → eye protection → mask. Doff in a designated area; never touch the outside of contaminated PPE.
05
/ 05
Dispose of single-use PPE in appropriate waste streams immediately after doffing. Perform hand hygiene.

FAQ / PPE & Safety
Answers to the questions clinical buyers and care teams ask most about this product category.
Surgical masks protect against droplets and splashes but do not create an airtight seal. N95 respirators filter out at least 95% of airborne particles and require annual fit testing. Use N95s for airborne precautions (TB, measles, COVID-19 aerosols).
Nitrile and vinyl gloves are latex-free and safe for latex-allergic patients. Natural rubber latex gloves are clearly labeled and should be avoided in latex-sensitive environments. Check the product label for glove material.
AAMI PB70 classifies gowns from Level 1 (minimal risk) to Level 4 (high risk, surgical). Check the gown's AAMI rating to match the clinical risk of the procedure. Isolation gowns are typically Level 1–3; surgical gowns are Level 3–4.
Most disposable PPE is single-use only and must not be reprocessed. Reusable items (e.g., face shields, some gowns) must be cleaned and disinfected per manufacturer instructions between uses.
Donning: hand hygiene → gown → mask/respirator → eye protection → gloves. Doffing: gloves → gown → hand hygiene → eye protection → mask → hand hygiene. Always doff in a designated area.
