Hand hygiene.

Perform hand hygiene before donning PPE. Inspect each item for defects before use.

Donning sequence.

Gown → mask/respirator → eye protection → gloves. Gloves go on last and pull over gown cuffs to maintain the barrier.

Respirator seal check.

For N95 respirators, perform a user seal check on every application. Exhale and inhale — detect any leaks and reposition if needed.

Doffing sequence.

Gloves → gown → eye protection → mask. Doff in a designated area; never touch the outside of contaminated PPE.

Disposal.

Dispose of single-use PPE in appropriate waste streams immediately after doffing. Perform hand hygiene.

What's the difference between a surgical mask and an N95 respirator?

Surgical masks protect against droplets and splashes but do not create an airtight seal. N95 respirators filter out at least 95% of airborne particles and require annual fit testing. Use N95s for airborne precautions (TB, measles, COVID-19 aerosols).

Are these gloves latex-free?

Nitrile and vinyl gloves are latex-free and safe for latex-allergic patients. Natural rubber latex gloves are clearly labeled and should be avoided in latex-sensitive environments. Check the product label for glove material.
